GB's Patten joins Cash & Glasspool in doubles quarters

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool are through to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open men's doubles, where they are joined by fellow Briton Henry Patten and his Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara.

Cash and Glasspool, the 11th seeds, were forced to play out a match tie-break in a three-set 6-3 3-6 7-6 (11-9) thriller on Show Court Arena.

The Britons had trailed 8-3 in the deciding tie-break before winning nine successive points to take the win.

Sixth seeds Patten and Heliovaara defeated American pair Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram 6-3 7-6 (8-6).

The Wimbledon champions will take on Monaco's Hugo Nys and France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarter-finals, while Cash and Glasspool will face fourth seed Germans Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz.

Later, Glasspool and Russian Alexandra Panova pulled out of their mixed doubles second-round match just 30 minutes before they were scheduled to step out on court.

Their opponents, second seeds Michael Venus and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand, received a walkover and advanced to the quarter-finals.
