Ancient Wisdom stormed to victory in the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster.

Charlie Appleby's charge was sent off as the 5-4 favourite, but was put under pressure by Devil's Point and Dancing Gemini three furlongs out.

However, William Buick's mount outstayed Devil's Point by a length and three-quarters to win the final Group One of the British Flat season.

"It's a very important race for next year and I was delighted with Ancient Wisdom," Buick told ITV Racing.

"He put in a big performance only weeks ago at Newmarket and Charlie and the team were very happy to supplement him for today.

"He's just a horse that is very uncomplicated and that goes a long way."

The field was reduced to seven runners when Battle Cry was withdrawn after rearing up and falling backwards in the starting stalls.

Jockey Ben Curtis was unseated in the process, but he and Battle Cry were able to walk away.
