Jessica Andrade says she dropped "60lb in 32 days" before her win against Claudia Gadelha in 2017, but is currently experiencing one of the "best weight cuts" of her career.

Andrade, 32, is set to face Natalia Silva on the undercard at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on on Saturday.

The flyweight bout between the two Brazilians takes place at 125lb, but Andrade's contest with Gadelha took place at the 115lb strawweight limit.

The cut of 60lb equates to 4st 3lb or 27.2kg.

"A lot of weight losses in the past for the cuts. For the fight against Gadelha, I actually dropped 60lb in 32 days," said Andrade.

"I had 30 pounds [to cut] when I heard about this fight in June in Brazil.

“Only started to do the weight cut here when I got back at the end of June. This has been one of my best weight cuts."

It's not uncommon for MMA fighters to cut weight in the weeks leading up to a bout, but the UFC advise its athletes to lose no more than 8% of their body weight during fight week.

On fight night athletes are recommended to stay within 10% of their weight class.

Andrade says she had five pounds to shed this week, which is in line with UFC guidelines.

The organisation has taken steps in recent years to make weight cuts safer - by banning IV drips, which forces fighters to hydrate in a healthier way, and building the Performance Institute, which provides guidance for its athletes from professional health experts.

Andrade has won 26 of her 38 bouts since debuting in 2011, while Silva has a record of 17 wins and five defeats.

The card at the UFC Apex is headlined by a welterweight bout between Brazil's Gilbert Burns and American Sean Brady.
