Brentford's record-signing Igor Thiago has been ruled out until the end of the year after having knee surgery.
The Brazilian striker, who joined the Bees on a five-year deal for £30m last month, suffered a meniscus injury on his debut in a 5-2 victory over AFC Wimbledon on 20 July.
In a club statement, external, Brentford said the 23-year-old will "begin a period of recovery and rehabilitation and is expected to return towards the end of the year".
Thiago helped Belgian club Club Brugge win the Jupiler Pro League with 18 goals in 34 games.
His injury comes as England striker Ivan Toney is being linked with a move away from Brentford.
