Kayleigh Green of Brighton celebrates after scoring against West Ham UnitedBrighton have picked up seven points in four games since new boss Melissa Phillips took charge

Brighton moved five points clear of the Women's Super League relegation zone with victory over West Ham United.

It took until the 57th minute for Kayleigh Green to score the game's only goal in a tightly-matched contest.

West Ham had come close through Dagny Brynjarsdottir in the first half but she had an effort blocked by Zoe Morse on the line.

The Irons are all but mathematically safe, with a six-point buffer over bottom-placed Reading.

Reading have played a game more than West Ham and would have a goal difference of -28 to the Irons' -18.

Brighton have three matches left to play to secure top-flight safety.

More to follow.
