East Coast residents fight to keep cool in heat wave

A sizzling heat wave in North America has more than 70 million people in the US under heat alerts, with warnings also issued in four Canada provinces.

The extreme heat has been described by the National Weather Service as the region's first significant heatwave of the season.

Scientists say extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense as a result of climate change.
