The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is to undergo a raft of governance reforms.

Titled Together Stronger the Future, the changes are intended to "enable greater agility, diversity and accountability" as the FAW prepares for its 150th anniversary in 2026.

Among the changes, the FAW will be transformed from its current shareholder set-up to become a company limited by guarantee in 2027.

The governing body also says its 2023-24 financial results will be released soon and “will report record revenues… with a significant profit” despite the men’s national team failing to qualify for Euro 2024.

The FAW says its "new council will open up for wider representation and new constituents from Welsh football - eg players, coaches, supporters, schools, walking football, futsal, youth council“ and adds that “this will enable us to achieve our aims to diversify our decision-making bodies to represent Wales and Welsh football of today”.

In August 2025 sub-boards will transition to football advisory committees, the leading examples including the FAW's strategic committee, national competitions committee, grassroots community committee and the newly formed women and girls’ football committee, which will have "oversight of women’s football strategy".

The officers committee and international game board will be dissolved, there will be a new ring-fenced female vice-presidency and "greater executive responsibility".

A push will also be made by the FAW to “encourage new administrators to emerge from different backgrounds through our youth council and other mentoring programmes at regional level".

FAW chief executive Noel Mooney said: "In 2021, we delivered 'Sustainable Association for the Future’, which contained 80 recommendations that we have implemented and we have already seen huge growth on the back of these.

"Now, in 2025, 'Together Stronger for the Future' provides us with more than 30 new recommendations to turbo charge our growth. We could not be more excited for the future of Welsh football at all levels."
