Glamorgan and Somerset forced to wait for One-Day Cup final

Glamorgan and Somerset were forced to sit and watch the rain as the scheduled date for the One-Day Cup final was washed out, with no play at Trent Bridge.

A reserve day has been allocated for Monday, 23 September, but the forecast remains poor with more heavy rain likely to affect the Midlands.

If the teams cannot play at least a 20-over match, the trophy is due to be shared between the clubs.

Umpires David Millns and Rob White made the inevitable call at 14:30 BST as the rain intensified and pools of water formed on the outfield, with supporters from both counties left frustrated in the stands.

The two sides are both hoping that the 50-over competition would make up for recent disappointments, with Somerset beaten in the T20 Blast final by local rivals Gloucestershire, and Surrey clinching the County Championship.

Glamorgan have slumped to seventh in Division Two of the Championship, increasing the emphasis on repeating their trophy win of 2021 in the 50 overs format.

A complete abandonment of the match would add to the controversy among county supporters over the scheduling of the final in late September, with a similar date already inked in for 2025.
