Gold medal winner Muirhead plans new curling academy

Olympic gold medal winner Eve Muirhead is planning a new academy aimed at producing the next generation of Scottish curling stars.

The 34-year-old, from Perth, retired from the sport in 2022 after winning gold at that year’s Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Now she hopes to pass on her experience to future generations in the hope of continuing Scotland’s success on the rink.

"Curling has always been my passion," Muirhead said. "I'm excited to give back to this sport that has given me so much.

"Our mission is to pass down my knowledge, preserve the rich traditions of curling and help players unlock their full potential - whether they're just starting out or looking to elevate their game.

"Curling is such a wonderful, inclusive sport that enriches lives and communities and helps a healthy lifestyle. I want to do my bit to make sure it grows and thrives for future generations of players."

No details of a venue, financing or timescale have yet been released, but the academy, which will be supported by Scottish Curling, will look to provide coaching and expert support for players of all ages and experience levels.

Scottish Curling chief executive Vincent Bryson added: "Scottish Curling has witnessed first-hand, the incredible influence athletes like Eve Muirhead have on one of our national sports.

"We are incredibly proud to support her in this venture and we believe Muirhead Curling will become a cornerstone of curling development, both in Scotland and worldwide."
