Government borrowing in December was lower than expected, according to the latest official figures.
Borrowing - the difference between spending and tax income - was £7.8bn last month, the Office for National Statistics said.
That was £8.4bn less than the amount borrowed a year earlier and the lowest December borrowing total since 2019.
It was also well below the £14bn figure that had been forecast by analysts.
