Labour candidate Caroline Woodley has been elected as the mayor of Hackney.
Previously the cabinet member for families, parks and leisure, Ms Woodley's pre-election promises included prioritising social housing and making Hackney more inclusive.
Hackney Council introduced directly elected mayors with executive power in 2002 and Ms Woodley is the first woman to hold the role.
Turnout was 21% and Ms Woodley received 18,474 of the 37,289 votes cast.
Former mayor Philip Glanville stood down in September after being suspended by the Labour Party when a photo emerged showing him at a social event with an ex-councillor convicted of possessing indecent images of children.
The statutory deputy mayor, Anntoinette Bramble, acted in the mayor's place between Mr Glanville's resignation and Ms Woodley's election.
