A man has appeared in court accused of confronting police at Horse Guards Parade in central London.

Two Ministry of Defence police officers were approached by a man with a knife on Monday at the historic area in Westminster, central London.

Prashanth Kandaiah, 29, of Thamesmead, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).

He was also charged with possession of a knife.

Mr Kandhaiah was remanded into custody until the next hearing at Southwark Crown Court on 17 May.

The two officers were approached by a man at about 08:50 BST on Monday.

Police officers used a Taser to restrain him before placing him under arrest.
