Amid an escalating trade dispute, the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting the US and Canada has officially opened to motorists. The 1.5-mile bridge links Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario.Cyclists and pedestrians able to cross from 5 August.
Canada excluded the United States from the opening ceremony of the bridge, following President Donald Trump's decision to impose 50% tariffs on Canadian goods after Canada introduced retaliatory duties on US products including cars, alcohol and cheese.
The bridge, intended as a symbol of cross-border cooperation, has instead become a symbol of growing tensions between the two countries. The BBC's Nadine Yousif explains.
