Katate Dori landed the Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap Chase at Kempton, finishing clear of 11-4 favourite and Grand National hopeful Hyland.
Dori, ridden by jockey Charlie Deutsch, won by 15 lengths, having chased down and gone clear of 7-1 chance Beachcomber with four fences to go.
It was Katate Dori's third victory from four runs this year, having also won over three miles at Wincanton and Exeter last month.
"Really brave, I thought I might just get a bit outpaced at the start and I did," Deutsch told ITV.
"I ended up last jumping the third and then I pulled him out to see him a bit of light and he's winged the fences down the back straight on the first circuit and just got to the front quite nicely.
"I knew we were going into the gallop and the ground was testing but I think he staying watching his races, and he certainly did. He's given me a really give me a really good spin."
Katate Dori's co-owner Dai Walters, who was in a helicopter crash with winning trainer Sam Thomas in November 2022, spoke on his condition following the success.
"My back is a bit sore, but apart from that you've just got to live with it and move on," said Walters. "If you moan, people get fairly fed up of listening to you, but I'm happy.
"We've been working so hard especially to have a winner. Sam is working so hard and I'm glad he's having results."
Hyland, ridden by Nico de Boinville, finished second despite spending most of the run at the back of the back.
Earlier this month, Hyland was among the 87 initial entrants for April's Grand National and rode well during the second circuit of the three-mile course, finishing 11 lengths clear of third-placed Our Power.
Meanwhile, 16-1 shot Knockanore won the Eider Handicap Chase at Newcastle by 16 lengths from 7-1 hopeful O'Connell.
Choosethenews, the 5-1 favourite, finished back in sixth, while Anglers Crag, who won this race 12 months ago, was a non-runner.
Your Own Story, who had finished fifth, was later dropped down to ninth place after jockey Patrick Wadge failed to weigh in after the race's conclusion.
