Pop star Kylie Minogue stunned performers with a surprise visit to the rehearsals of the I Should Be So Lucky musical this week.

The show, which will premiere at Manchester Opera House next month, is named after the single that launched Kylie's music career back in 1987.

The musical follows the story of a jilted bride who takes her family and friends on her honeymoon.

Kylie spent two days on set watching the cast be put through their paces.

During her visit, the Australian pop veteran, 55, also recorded her role for the show as she will digitally appear as a "specially created character" throughout.

Lucie-Mae Sumner, who plays the leading role of Ella, said it was a "dream come true" to meet the singer.

"We couldn't believe it when Kylie walked through the door", she said.

"I spent two incredible days with her as she's playing my fairy godmother in the show and we recorded all of her videos together.

"It was a dream come true for pop royalty to watch us sing her epic songs."

In addition to Kylie's hits, the show will also feature many other songs from the music production team of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman who's songs dominated the charts throughout the 1980s.

The show will open in Manchester on 2 November and run until 25 November, before embarking on a UK tour.
