Voters in parts of England will head to the polls today to elect councillors and mayors in the local elections
They are considered the last test of voters' opinion before the next general election, which is expected later this year
Police and crime commissioners will also be chosen across England and Wales
Mayoral elections are taking place in London and nine other "metro" areas across England. Mayors will be chosen for the first time in the East Midlands, the North East, and York and North Yorkshire
Voters will also choose the mayor of Salford, the directly-elected leader of the city council
And there's a by-election in Blackpool South, where voters will chose a new MP
Many results will be announced overnight into Friday 3 May, with more expected to follow throughout Friday and Saturday
