Voters are going to the polls to elect a new MP in Rochdale.
The by-election will decide who will replace veteran Labour MP Sir Tony Lloyd, who died on 17 January, days after announcing he had an incurable form of leukaemia.
There are 11 candidates on the ballot paper and they have each provided the BBC with minute manifestos.
Polling stations opened at 07:00 GMT and close at 22:00, with results expected early on Friday morning.
Constituents will need photo ID to vote.
