The Hundred men's competition, Old Trafford
Trent Rockets 145-7 (100 balls): Banton 45 (22); Hartley 3-25
Manchester Originals 144-8 (100 balls): Holden 40 (37); Cook 2-37
Trent Rockets won by one run
Trent Rockets took two wickets in the final two balls to beat Manchester Originals by one run in a thriller at Old Trafford in The Hundred men's competition.
The Originals needed just two runs from the final three balls to record their first win of the season but were denied by superb bowling from the Rockets' Jordan Thompson.
The Englishman produced a dot ball before Sikandar Raza (21) was run out going for a single.
It meant the home side needed two runs to win and one to tie off the final ball, but Max Holden (40) hooked Thompson's delivery straight to Sam Hain who won the match for the Rockets with a simple catch.
The Rockets had posted a competitive score of 145-7 after a good platform from opener Tom Banton (45) and power hitting from West Indies cricketer Rovman Powell (27).
The Originals looked in control of their chase but lost five wickets over the final 22 balls.
The Rockets' one-run win was the second ever in the Hundred with the first, remarkably, happening just a few hours earlier when the Originals women beat the Rockets on the same ground.
What else do you need to know?
Trent Rockets are second in the men's standings after starting the season with two wins from two games.
Manchester Originals are second-bottom following their second straight loss.
Rockets' Rashid Khan played his first match at this year's Hundred, knocking 15 runs from nine balls and taking 2-24 off his 20 deliveries.
After two matches Banton is the leading run scorer in this year's Hundred and has scored 30 more runs than second-placed Liam Dawson of London Spirit.
'Every run counts' and 'what the Hundred is about' - what they said
Trent Rockets' Tom Banton: "Very up and down. They played well to get to a close ending.
"That's what the Hundred's about, good game. At the start of the comp we talked about qualifying, two from two is a great start."
Trent Rockets captain Lewis Gregory: "We've got a brilliant attack. I was trying to hold a bit back to the end and push the button at the right time. We knew what ball we were trying to bowl, pace off worked well.
"Last year we were on the wrong side of a couple. We've got 11, 12, 13 guys that can win a game of cricket. We weren't at our best but got there. Every run counts."
What is happening on Tuesday?
It's back to Headingley for another double-header on Tuesday, with Northern Superchargers facing Southern Brave (women's at 15:00 BST and men's at 18:35 BST).
Superchargers' men were thrashed by the Rockets in their opener, while the Brave convincingly beat London Spirit in their first fixture.
