Try: Vagana Goal: Jowitt
St Helens (14) 26
Tries: Welsby, Robertson, Clark, Feldt Goals: Percival 5
St Helens maintained their 100% record to return to the top of Super League with a hard-fought win at Wakefield.
Saints had been at their free-scoring best in the first two rounds, piling up 128 points, but promoted Trinity proved stiffer opponents than Salford and Castleford to remain in the contest well into the second half.
Tries from Jack Welsby and Harry Robertson - his fifth in three games - and a couple of Mark Percival penalties gave the visitors breathing space at half-time, although Isaiah Vagana struck to keep Trinity within sight.
Saints weathered some Wakefield pressure early in the second half before easing away through tries from Daryl Clark and Kyle Feldt.
