The Scottish government has announced a ban on American XL Bully dogs.

Scotland will fall in line with measures introduced in England and Wales amid concerns over attacks.

The breeding, selling and abandonment of the animals will become an offence under the new laws, similar to legislation which came in to force south of the border on 31 December.

A date for the ban will be announced in "the coming period," Community Safety Minister Siobhan Brown confirmed.
