Ed Sheeran has apologised for interrupting Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim's live TV interview after Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw at Ipswich Town.

Amorim, taking charge of United for the first time, was being interviewed by Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates, ex-United captain Roy Keane, former Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen and ex-Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp at Portman Road.

Singer-songwriter Sheeran, who is a minority owner at Ipswich, interrupted the pitchside interview to greet Redknapp.

Referring to Amorim, Sheeran said: "I don't think he wants to speak to me." He added: "I love being back in the Premier League."

He then left and the interview resumed.

In a post in Instagram on Monday, Sheeran wrote: "Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday. Didn't actually realise he was being interviewed at the time. Was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Great game, congrats on all involved."

Sheeran became Ipswich's main shirt sponsor in 2021.

After Ipswich earned back-to-back promotions to secure a return to the Premier League this season, he bought a minority stake in the club this summer.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for United in the second minute but Omari Hutchinson's 43rd-minute equaliser earned Ipswich a point.
