Skupski through in men's doubles but Salisbury out

Britain's Neal Skupski progressed to the third round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon but Joe Salisbury's campaign is over.

Skupski and New Zealand's Michael Venus - seeded ninth - beat Australia's John Peers and Rinky Hijikata 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 in a match that was repeatedly disrupted by rain.

They will face Americans Christopher Eubanks and Evan King next.

Later, Salisbury and his American partner Rajeev Ram - who are four-time Grand Slam champions and seeded third at the All England Club - lost 4-6 6-3 6-2 to German Andreas Mies and Australia's John-Patrick Smith.

However Skupski will be joined in the third round by British wildcards Charles Broom and Arthur Fery after they defeated seventh seeds Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Croatia's Nikola Mektic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5).

British wildcards Marcus Willis and Alicia Barnett also won on Sunday as the mixed doubles finally got under way - two days later than planned.

With their match moved to Court One, Willis and Barnett made use of the home crowd to win 6-3 3-6 (10-5) against eighth seeds Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Taiwan's Chan Hao-ching.

In the women's doubles second round, Emily Appleton and Lily Miyazaki lost 6-1 6-2 to the top seeds, Belgium's Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan.

There was defeat, too, in the third round for Olivia Nicholls and her Slovakian partner Tereza Mihalikova, as they were beaten 3-6 6-2 6-3 by ninth seeds Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia and Ukraine's Lyudmyla Kichenok.
