Dundalk FC say talks with potential investors are at a "critical time" as their owner conducts discussions with "different groups, domestically and overseas" on Monday to try and secure the future of the Irish Premier Division club.

The conversations are being held in the context of the county Louth outfit sitting bottom of the league table and in danger of relegation from the top flight, while there have been issues at the club regarding staff not being paid in recent weeks.

Players and coaching staff are understood to have received unpaid wages they were owed by the club last Thursday.

Club owner Brian Ainscough only took control of the club in November 2023 but last week revealed that reports of financial difficulties at the club are true, external.

In their statement released on their X account on Sunday, the Oriel Park club also expressed concern over what they allege was misinformation being communicated on social media.

"We are fully aware of the rumours and false information that is circulating on social media this evening [Sunday]," the club said.

"Our owner is in discussions with different groups, domestically and overseas.

"The next 24 hours is a critical time for the club and we hope that we can get a deal done that keeps us going forward.

"We will keep everyone updated with any developments."
