The shadow home secretary, Yvette Cooper, has said that there is currently "no deterrent" in place for people smuggling gangs in Europe.
When asked by the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg whether the government is responsible for creating a deterrent for migrants attempting to reach the UK, Ms Cooper accused the Conservatives of sending more home secretaries to Rwanda than asylum seekers.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak succeeded in passing his key Rwanda bill through the House of Commons earlier this week, but it is due to face opposition in the House of Lords.
