Valencia have asked for their visit to Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday to be postponed as the city continues to deal with the aftermath of the devastating floods that hit eastern Spain last week.

Valencia's Copa del Rey meeting with Parla Escuela and La Liga game against Real Madrid were both postponed last week after flooding in the Valencia region caused at least 217 deaths.

"Just a week has passed since the catastrophe of the storm and the situation is still very serious," said Valencia in a statement made with neighbours Levante, who want their second division match against Tenerife to be called off too.

La Liga has asked the Spanish football federation (RFEF) to postpone the matches.

Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti, Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone and Barcelona's Hansi Flick were among the managers who criticised the RFEF's decision that matches in the Spanish top flight, bar Valencia's, should go ahead last weekend.
