Aston Villa look set to sign Jack Harrison from Championship side Leeds United on a season-long loan deal after hijacking Everton's move for the winger.

Harrison, 26, had a medical at Everton on Sunday before Villa made a move.

Villa now have an agreement in place to sign the Englishman.

Harrison joined Leeds in 2021 for £11m from Manchester City, having been on loan at the club since 2018, and has scored 34 goals in 206 games.

Although Villa have an agreement in place to sign him, Harrison has a hip injury and is not set to return to action for at least a month, which may yet be a stumbling block to the deal being completed.

He would be Villa's fourth summer signing following France winger Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen, Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans from relegated Leicester City and Spain centre-back Pau Torres from Villarreal.

Unai Emery's side began the season with a 5-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday in which they lost centre-back Tyrone Mings to a potentially long-term knee injury.

Everton, who began the season with a 1-0 home defeat by Fulham on Saturday, have also been in talks to sign Leeds' Italy winger Wilfried Gnonto, but are yet to reach an agreement for the 19-year-old.

Gnonto has refused to play for Leeds and the club have opened disciplinary proceedings against the player.

Everton also have an interest in signing Portuguese striker Beto, 25, from Serie A side Udinese, but talks are not yet at an advanced stage.
