The stepson of a police officer allegedly opened fire at Florida State University (FSU) using her former service weapon, killing two people and injuring six others, authorities say.

Police responded to an active shooter call near the student union building in Tallahassee.

An alert was issued warning students and those on campus to "seek shelter and await further instructions".
