Polling stations have opened across West Lancashire as constituents elect their next MP.

The by-election was triggered when Labour's Rosie Cooper, who represented the seat for 17 years, resigned in November to become the chair of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Six candidates have put themselves forward to succeed her.

Polls opened at 07:00 GMT and will close at 22:00. The result is expected to be announced early on Friday.
