Everton are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Sean Dyche on Thursday.
The 53-year-old departed just hours before Everton's FA Cup third-round match against League One side Peterborough.
Dyche succeeded Frank Lampard in January 2023 and has kept Everton in the top flight, but his exit comes with them sitting 16th in the Premier League, just above the relegation zone.
Jose Mourinho was one of the bookmakers' early favourites, but sources have told BBC Sport that the Portuguese manager is not in the running.
Everton are understood to want a replacement who has Premier League experience.
Who is in the frame to fill the vacancy? BBC Sport has looked at possible contenders to take the reins at Goodison Park. You can also vote for who you would like to take over.
Massimiliano Allegri
Allegri has had successful spells in charge of Juventus and AC Milan, but he was sacked by Juve in May.
He has won Italy's top flight six times and twice took Juventus to Champions League finals - albeit losing both.
Could a switch to Merseyside be a good fit for the 57-year-old Italian's first job outside of his home country?
Leighton Baines
Baines is managing the Toffees on an interim basis with Dyche having been sacked - could he be the right man for the full-time job?
The popular former left-back spent the majority of his playing career at Everton, amassing over 400 appearances after joining from Wigan Athletic. He has also managed the club's under-18s since 2022.
Lee Carsley
Carsley is back to leading the England Under-21 side - having stepped up to the senior Three Lions job on an interim basis following Gareth Southgate's departure.
The former Everton midfielder is now preparing the England youngsters for a summer defence of the Under-21 Euros title, having led them to victory in 2023.
Would Carsley be willing to leave the England youth side to take up a job in the Premier League?
Steve Cooper
Cooper is on the lookout for a new job after being sacked by Leicester in November following a five-game winless run, with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League table.
Cooper, who only lasted five months at the Foxes, previously managed Nottingham Forest and guided them to promotion from the Championship to the top flight.
Paulo Fonseca
Former AC Milan boss Fonseca has not been out of work for long. He was sacked by the Italian club on 29 December after taking the job there in June.
Fonseca left with the seven-time European champions in eighth place in Serie A and 14 points adrift of top spot.
The 51-year-old spent two years at Lille before that and has also managed the likes of Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk and Braga.
Thomas Frank
Frank, 51, has been in charge of Brentford for more than six years and what a job he has done.
He took them into the Premier League, winning the Championship play-off final at Wembley in 2021, and has established the Bees as a top-flight club.
Brentford are 11th in the Premier League this season, five places and 10 points above Everton, so would he swap mid-table for a relegation battle?
In October, he said that joining a "big club" would not improve his life.
David Moyes
Moyes had an 11-year spell in charge of Everton from 2002 to 2013 and managed the club for more than 500 games.
During that time he took the Toffees to the 2009 FA Cup final, losing to Chelsea, and guided them to nine top-eight finishes, including a fourth-place finish in 2004-05, which took Everton into the Champions League qualifying rounds.
He left Goodison Park to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, before having spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland.
Moyes, 61, has since had two periods in charge of West Ham, winning the Conference League in 2023, but is currently out of management after losing his job at the end of last season.
Gareth Southgate
Former England boss Southgate has been resting since stepping down following the Euro 2024 final after the Three Lions lost to Spain.
His England side also reached the final of the Euros three years earlier, losing to Italy on penalties.
The 54-year-old had eight years in charge of the England side and recently was knighted in the New Year Honours.
However, he has only had one job in club management, a three-year spell in charge of Middlesbrough, which included a relegation in 2008-09, and has given no indication of a burning desire to be back in work this season.
Erik ten Hag
This appointment would mean a swift return to the Premier League for Ten Hag, who was dismissed by Manchester United in October after a run of poor results and with United sitting in 14th place.
The 54-year-old Dutchman managed the Red Devils for a little over two years after moving from Ajax. Could he be set for a return to England - and a move to another north-west club?
Edin Terzic
Terzic took Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, before his side lost to Real Madrid at Wembley. The German left Dortmund shortly afterwards, having asked the club to terminate his contract.
The 42-year-old has never managed in the Premier League, although he spent just over two years at West Ham between August 2015 and November 2017 as assistant to Slaven Bilic and has recently been reported as being interested in a move to England.
